Mayfly is an interactive terminal UI built specifically for DeepSeek Harness (dsh), packaged as an out-of-tree Cordis bundle over dsh-base and pinned to Harness 0.2.0-rc.2. It deliberately reuses dsh Web's plugin model: plugins register as ordinary Cordis siblings and consume native dsh services such as commands, sessionProjections, and tools directly through their Cordis context, while UI contributions route through the four Mayfly-specific services mayflyPanes, mayflyStatus, mayflyOverlays, and mayflyEditorExtensions. There is no Mayfly-only manifest, capability negotiation, adapter facade, private plugin realm, or separate plugin-author CLI; external plugins and Mayfly's own rows register identically.

The renderer is terminal-native, supporting Markdown tables, closed Mermaid fences inside assistant messages, and renderer-neutral nodes for lines, points, bars, sparklines, and heatmaps with width-safe source or text fallbacks. A single activity row above the editor consolidates live status — spinner, current step such as Thinking or Running commands, turn-elapsed time, estimated token count, and output rate — while the transcript records only settled events: streaming reasoning collapses to a captionless ✻ tail that resolves to one ✻ Thought for 6s row, and file edits surface as diff cards next to the final answer. Side conversations via /btw <question> and the /agents subagent tree render in the same transcript pane; F7 returns to the previous conversation and F8 closes the displayed one, and interrupting the selected conversation interrupts every running continuable descendant without closing those Agents.

Installation runs via npm i -g @ephemeral-ai/mayfly followed by dsh --profile mayfly, or by installing the dependency-free standalone launcher @ephemeral-ai/mayfly-cli and invoking mayfly; users must set DEEPSEEK_API_KEY before first run. The runtime requires Node ^22.19 or >=24 and pnpm 11, while the public npm surface is intentionally limited to three packages — @ephemeral-ai/mayfly-ui (renderer-neutral contracts and registries), @ephemeral-ai/mayfly (runtime areas, composition, and presets), and @ephemeral-ai/mayfly-cli (global launcher) — with frontend, conversation, app, core, transcript, and interaction kept as internal Cordis rows inside @ephemeral-ai/mayfly. Plugins still own their own database and network fetching; token-rate heuristics use four characters per token, exclude first-chunk latency, and disappear after two seconds of output silence, with narrow terminals omitting tips and rates first. The project is MIT-licensed and community support is centered on a Feishu group whose invite links expire weekly.

Mayfly is an interactive terminal UI for DeepSeek Harness (dsh) — an out-of-tree Cordis bundle over dsh-base, built against Harness 0.2.0-rc.2. Mayfly 0.1.3-rc.2 deliberately uses the same plugin model as dsh Web: plugins are ordinary Cordis siblings and consume native dsh services directly.

  • Terminal-native rendering: Markdown tables, closed Mermaid fences in assistant messages, and renderer-neutral line, point, bar, sparkline, and heatmap nodes — with width-safe source or text fallbacks.
  • One activity row for live status: the spinner, current step, turn elapsed time, estimated token count, and output rate live above the editor; the transcript records only what has happened.
