This is a native SSH remote-development plugin built exclusively for DeepSeek Harness, published on npm under the MIT license. It is built on top of the ssh2 library, and enables moving Bash execution, file manipulation, PTY terminals, and LSP functionality to a remote host over a single SSH connection. It supports multi-hop ProxyJump chains, full SFTP upload and download, and all common authentication methods, and does not require DeepSeek Harness to be installed on the remote target host. You can install it easily via the npm command npm i dsh-ssh.

The plugin implements remote providers for DSH’s ctx.subprocess and ctx.fs capability seams, so any tool built on those two seams works remotely without any code changes. It follows an architecture of “local brain, remote hands”: orchestration, memory, and LLM API calls all run on your local machine, while all commands and file operations execute remotely. It also adds a custom UI flow for adding remote workspaces in DSH’s web GUI, with a connection sidebar and directory browser similar to VS Code’s Remote Explorer. It lets users browse saved connections, ~/.ssh/config hosts, and both local and remote directories directly.

The plugin requires Node.js version 22 or higher to run, and users need to add a one-line configuration entry to their cordis.yml to mount all functionality at once, or split it into three separate entries for advanced deployments. It has several known limitations inherited from the SSH protocol, including inability to expose remote process IDs, no tree-scoped process termination, and no support for automatic reconnection after a dropped connection. All connection, authentication, and operation errors are surfaced with clear human-readable messages, and plugin teardown properly cleans up all active processes, open connections, and temporary files. It is released under the open source MIT license with no cost to use.
